All of us at one time or another has misplaced some pretty important things over the yrs.
Our daughter after just getting married with-in a few wks, lost their marriage license
I wonder what the person thought who got the request for a copy at the court?
Some yrs ago in Maryland, the city took over a new jail in Baltimore and lost 114 inmates
They were there, just misplaced, one guy spent 18 months behind bars for simple arson, but had never been charged
An artist in 1931 named Henry Matisse, in France did a painting, rolled up the canvas and forgot where he put it
60 yrs later after his son Pierre died, his relatives were cleaning out an old warehouse and found that rolled up painting
which was worth $200,000
Every now and then, all of us misplace some important things like our wallets, our keys, our wives
most of the time we lose things because we are neglectful, we’re not paying attention
it even happened to the old testament, one time it was misplaced or lost due to neglect
- yr was 638 BC, a child of age 8 took the throne of Judah but it wasn’t until the age of 26 that King Josiah made his first independent decision
He ordered the rebuilding of Gods temple, it had been neglected and was falling apart
No one was worshiping, no one was praying, no one was calling for Gods help,
they had turned away from God yrs before and God had been forgotten
there were 2 kings before Josiah, Manasseh who is known as the most evil king that ever lived in history,
had led Israel away from God to the point that God was never mentioned
but then after his capture by the Assyrians, it took him to be brutally tortured before he cried out to God
God was good to him and restored him to Judah and he tried to turn his people back to God, but it was too late, they had lived too long without God
then Amon became king, only lasted 2 yrs, he was corrupt & evil and was assassinated
Then the people were ticked off at the people who killed Amon & so they killed off everyone who was involved and made Amons son Josiah king at 8 yrs old
II Chr. 34:3
in his 8th yr as king, he is now 16 he began to seek after God
something stirred in this boys heart, I think he looked at his father & grandpa & thought look at how horrible everything is because of how evil they were
apparently, there was someone around him that hadn’t forgotten God & told Josiah about him because it says he began to seek after him
which means he began to ask questions & wanted answers
Vs3 again
in his 12th yr of reign, he was now 20 yrs old he had increased with enough knowledge to know that all of the idols were false and an offense to God & he began to remove them
vs;8
in the 18th yr of his reign, he then began to rebuild the temple at age 26
He called the masons & the carpenters to go & buy what they needed so they could repair the temple and begin to worship once again
Josiah realized that his country had neglected their God
actually, Josiah wasn’t even sure if this is what God wanted him to do, God never spoke to him
this is a great step of faith, sometimes we have to go ahead & try to do something for God even if we’re not sure if its something that he wants
but just like any building programs, there are times when the work has to stop because unexpected things come up
Vs:14-19
as the workers begin repairing the temple they make a once in a lifetime discovery
something very important had been lost through neglect, something bigger than prisoners, or a wallet, or even a painting
they found the law, the last known copy, had been lost, but through this rebuilding it was discovered
proof that God wanted this rebuilding even if Josiah wasn’t told
When Gods Word is lost the results are devastating
without Gods Word, we have no guidelines for life
without scripture, how do we pretend to know how to live?
A builder would never begin to build a house if he didn’t have a tape measure & a square
how would you ever get a wall to stand straight and line up with the other walls?
Same is true about the bible, its valuable because it tells us how to live our lives
without the bible, how do we know what is wrong or what is right?
What does God expect from us? What is his desires?
II Kings 22: 10-11
Josiah and his people had lived without Gods law, and when it was read, it says that he tore his clothes
why?
Because they realized without Gods guide, they had missed the mark, they had wandered far off from a relationship with God
they had wandered so far, that they didn’t even know him
Gods Word is our guide by which we measure our lives, it tells us which way to go, which way to walk
ps 119: 105
If you have ever gone camping & have to go get something out of the car after its dark, you want a flashlight so you can see where your feet are
Thats what Gods word does for us, it tells us what our next step is as we walk in a dark world
This is 4th of July, Independence Day, the day in 1776 that we won our independence from Great Britain & began to rule ourselves
Can America, which began by being dependent on God, live without God?
For yrs, America has pushed to become independent FROM God & I believe our battle for independence began yrs ago but defined itself in 1973
Matt. 18: 1-7
In 1973 our country offended God, by passing into law the killing of children
We neglected the Word of God & we have been neglecting it ever since
you can chart our history back to that year, and from that point, our nation began to change
things began to come out of the dark, out of the closet & out of the sewer
I want you to understand something, right now America is guilty of neglecting Gods Word
But when this country passes a law to legalize homosexual marriage, and it will become the law of the land, I’m convinced of it
Its just a matter of time, and when it does happen, that is when the Word of God will be lost completely
And when its legalized, this church & every church that opposes Homosexual marriage will be closed down because we will be in violation of the law
Since America has neglected Gods Word, we are lost in a sea of subjectivity
without Gods word guiding us, there is no absolute truth, nothing that is true for all people for all times
instead we’re surrounded by everyones opinions & feelings
what we have is everybody trying to find their own truth thats right for them
can people decide to behave in a reasonable way with each other without Gods word?
Let me read you some headlines from reasonable people behaving with others:

Yes, people can live reasonably with other people without the Word of God
& if you believe that, I got swamp water that heals cancer for sale
Without Gods word there is no meaning to life
Gods book answers the questions of where we’re from, why we’re here and where we’re going
suicides, drug over doses, gang deaths, drug & alcohol abuse, sexual perversion. Depression, never goes down, but continually goes up
as people believe theres no future, no meaning to life
without a relationship with Christ, to be honest, there is no meaning to life, just a future to spend eternity in hell
with Gods Word, life becomes precious, wonderful, and a joy about the future
in Judah, there had been no scripture for 75 yrs and the Israelites had slid into idolatry & paganism
- scriptures had been neglected, to the point that no one even knew where a copy was or even cared, - temple had been neglected, no one worshiped the living God
but because Josiah saw the evilness around him and in his country, without the Word of God
people and their country will continue to grow more evil
Jn. 3: 19-21
Josiah hated how evil his country had become & believed there had to be a better way to live & he wanted to know God
you see, sometimes the darker a place gets the more light people will seek
& Judah had become so dark, so wicked, that Josiah needed the light
and as they began to rebuild the temple, they began to clean & lo & behold, the scriptures are found
- light had come back to Judah
America is neglecting Gods Word, just as Israel did, and if this country doesn’t pick it back up, it will be lost
can man live without God? Perhaps we’re on the verge of finding out
But according to Gods Word, man cannot live without Gods Word, we will destroy ourselves
I fear for the future of our country, we were once the home of the free and the brave
but that is quickly becoming lost
America has to stop neglecting the Word of God before its lost
