If you read the Old Testament you soon realize that the Israelite s were very stubborn, and it took allot for them to get the message, unlike us Americans who get it the first time and never have to learn anything the hard way!
Yeah right.
There were many times that God would say to do one thing, but they would go and do the opposite, like the time God sent 12 spies into the land so they could get their battle plan together and take the land.
But instead, 10 came back and said no way! Theres giants in the land and they can’t conquer it, CHANGE OF PLANS!
They weren’t suppose to change Gods plans, they were suppose to be obedient and do what God said,
But how many of us know exactly what God requires of us, but we say, I want to go in another direction? We end up hurting our relationship with the Lord and become out of his will.
We don’t lose our salvation, but we do lose our fellowship with him, and the longer we stay out of fellowship, we start feeling like a stranger with the Lord.
It becomes difficult to pray, you know how it is, you have an argument with someone, you stop talking, and the longer you don’t talk, the farther you drift apart, until you don’t talk at all.
Same thing with Jesus, the farther you drift apart, the harder it is to start talking again.
It become difficult to read your bible, that becomes hard to do, because if I’m not talking to him why would I want him to talk to me?
And so we put our bibles down and we know we should read it, but we drift farther away from the Lord, slowly and delibertly.
I know what I’m talking about, when we left our last church, I was so defeated as a pastor, that I started to drift from the Lord. praying and reading Gods Word became difficult.
Its easy to drift away and whats frustrating is, you feel guilty because you miss that fellowship with Christ. Its like having a brother that you never see, because you drift apart.
I have a younger brother, that I can count on both hands of how many times we have seen each other over the past 35 years. He was living a lifestyle that I don’t approve of, we were moving constantly across the United States and we just stopped talking.
I miss him at times and think about the things we did as kids, I was his protector from a few fights, I ran him over with my motorcycle, he got me in trouble with our parents, we ran away from home together, we hunted pheasants and rabbits, went camping out behind our uncles house, got scared and came home!
But we drifted apart, years apart, different lifestyles will do that.
Same thing with the Lord, if you want to live a different lifestyle than what the Lord lives, if you want to stop talking and listening to him, you will drift apart.
Guard your relationships with Christ and with family so you don’t drift away from each other, its been my prayer that my kids won’t drift apart but will always keep in touch with each other, its easy to do, they’re all separated in ages and living in different places.
My biggest prayer is that they won’t drift away from Christ, and that all Christians will protect their relationship with Jesus.
